Dr. Freilich earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He then entered and completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Dr Freilich then completed two fellowships; one in gastroenterology and the other in hepatology, both at UCLA Medical Center. A true academic, Dr Freilich conducts on-going clinical studies and has over fifty publications specializing in liver disease.
Dr Jafri earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr Jafri has a special interest in diseases of the pancreas. He is the leading Kansas City physician in the use of SpyGlass Direct Visualization. This cutting-edge procedure aids in diagnosis and could eliminate a patients need to undergo surgery. An article in M.D. News was recently published about Dr. Jafri and his use of this procedure.

The practice is currently enrolling patients in several clinical trials for Hepatitis C as well as fatty liver, Chrohns, and Ulcerative Colitis.

Therapies for Hepatitis C patients who have never been treated, those who have been non responders, and/or relapsers to previous therapy are available through these clinical trials.

Studies for patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are currently examining agents for these disorders.

Janay Kissinger , ANP , BC , has been KCGI’s Nurse Practioner and sub-investigator since 1998.  As our nurse practitioner, Janay specializes in clinical practice:  She sees patient’s, prescribes medications and makes rounds at hospitals.  While she maintains a busy office schedule, Janay also works as a sub-investigator for our ongoing clinical trails and studies and has numerous publications.  She received her BSN from Grandview College and her Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri , Kansas City In addition to over a decade of GI and Hepatology experience, Janay has worked as a charge nurse for surgical intensive care, burn intensive care and surgical step-down units.
